It’s still incredibly courageous to be seen after a life full of secrets.
Often, daughters of narcissistic mothers wear masks of strength, resilience, and confidence even when they feel broken inside. They live a lonely life, caused by the parental narcissists need for complete secrecy.
An isolation caused by being unable to trust others can be suffocating. It’s a cycle that lifts up the feeling of being alone even in an overcrowded room.
Me? It feels like no one truly understands the depth of my struggles.
I’ve never found it hard to admit that my mother does not love me, because it’s not my fault. I’d have moved her out of that house in an instant and I once offered for her to live with me and she never took me up on it. I’m dependable and loyal to a literal fault.
I now find it next to impossible to trust people, thanks to her.
Raised by a narcissistic mother, you’ve likely walked a path littered with loveless interactions, loss, ugliness, and purposeful confusion. The world outside your home is vibrant, but within you is a deeply profound loneliness.
When you fight your lifelong silence and reach out for support, you often find more silence staring back at you. It's as if your pain is invisible. You are casually dismissed as mere exaggeration or someone looking for pity. And you are neither. When all of that comes from a parent that you looked to for assistance, part of your heart dies.
